Stratford: Part of the Atlantic Canada Sustainability Initiative

Prince Edward Island has long been known throughout Canada and indeed the world as one of the nation's true crown jewels. With unparalleled scenery, a culture all its own, and some of the most unique job prospects in the country, this small island province and its towns provide a glimpse into Atlantic culture at its finest.

Like the other Atlantic Provinces, Prince Edward Island real estate has its own challenges associated with Maritime living as well as the environment. To answer these challenges, the Atlantic Sustainability Initiative has been created. The goal of the initiative is to provide a sustainable lifestyle within the Atlantic Provinces, which protects opportunities, jobs, and the environment within maritime communities. The town of Stratford is a proud part of this Atlantic initiative.

Stratford is a town of just under 10,000 people located just north of Charlottetown, the principal capital and hub. In fact, the proximity of the town to the capital and a new highway connection have meant that the population is growing quite steadily, and it can already claim to be the third largest centre within the province despite its relatively new appearance as far as geography; Stratford was only amalgamated in 1995!

As a part of one of Canada's most notable provinces in terms of natural beauty as well as its close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, Stratford has a vested interest in ensuring that it does its part to keep the health of its immediate environment and that of the world in general at optimum levels. Part of the reason for Stratford joining other Prince Edward Island communities such as Wolfville in the Atlantic Canada Sustainability Initiative is that predicted rises in sea levels due to global warming will have a direct effect on the town itself.

As a part of the ACSI, Stratford is partnered with Atlantic Canada based companies such as Alliant to ensure jobs and a healthy future for generations to come. For the community, this means coming up with, and implementing, a vision wherein the growth of the community and its job base is planned and carried out though the next two decades. Part of the initiative is in setting forth specific terms when it comes to sustainability within the town of Stratford.

Stratford is truly a model community within Prince Edward Island and Canada. Located in one of the most scenic spots in the world, Stratford is proving itself to be not only a location where employment is reliable and which is demonstrably concerned with the future.
