While the name of the site might lead you to think that we are only focusing on real estate to be found along the coastal areas of North America, the fact is that we want to bring you information on a wide variety of waterfront locations. While many of these locations will in fact be along the coastlines of North America, we are also going to take a look at what can be found within the interior of the countries on the continent.
The one thing all of the real estate we take a look at on this site has in common is that the location makes it feel as though it is in another world. The locales we explore are removed from the noise and hustle of big cities, but are still robust enough for people to work and live in.
In this section of the site, we are going to take a look at the various regions of the continent know as cottage country.
Wait a second, you might ask, what exactly is cottage country? If you aren't Canadian, and even if you are, you may never have heard the term before. It is of Canadian origin, and typically applies to areas that are near enough to big cities for an easy drive, but far enough to have a distinctly peaceful atmosphere. If you are Canadian and have not heard the term before, don't worry, as it is enjoys more popularity in the east than out west.
Just as the term itself is specific in terms of where it is used, so too are the areas it applies to. What is termed cottage country will differ from one big city to the next. For example, cottage country in Calgary probably refers to area around the southern Rockies, including Canmore. In Toronto, cottage country is Muskoka or Haliburton, and so on.
Cottage country also tends to evolve according to economy. Vancouver residents, for example, may refer to a number of locations as cottage country, from the Fraser Canyon to places further in the Interior such as the Shuswap Lake region.
As diverse as the areas referred to as cottage country are, though, they all tend to share some features in common. Let's take a look at what those are:
A good sized fresh water lake. Waterfront activity is the main draw when it comes to cottage country. People want somewhere to swim, water ski, fish, or just float around in some kind of water craft all day. A nice lake is a key ingredient when it comes to cottage country.
Large expanses of undeveloped land. Cottage country needs to have a distinct feel, apart from the rush of cities and even good size towns. Undeveloped space is imperative when it comes to cottage country.
Local suppliers. While cottage country is largely undeveloped, it does have enough building to ensure a comfortable stay. It's not uncommon to see chain grocery stores or even big box stores serving the needs of cottage country residents both during the summer and year round.
Much like you are reading Canada has many cottages available or the property that will afford you the opportunity to build one. Many Toronto residents enjoy their weekend trips away spending quality time at their cottage. Many of these families choose to hire the help of a nanny Toronto to make their weekend getaway a little less stressful and a lot more peaceful.
Cottage country is almost as fun to read and write about as it is to own property in. There are many locations all over the continent that fit the bill, and we look forward to brining them to you in this section.
